Amazon Decart Deal: Talks Reportedly Hit $7 Billion for an AI Startup

Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy AI startup Decart for about $7 billion. No deal is signed, and neither side has commented.

Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy AI startup Decart for around $7 billion.

Add roughly $3 billion to a startup’s price tag in five months and people tend to notice. The Amazon Decart deal is not done yet, but Reuters, relaying a Wall Street Journal report, says Amazon is in talks to buy the AI startup for around $7 billion.

That would be roughly $3 billion more than Decart was reportedly worth five months ago.

The Journal published its report on Sunday, Oct. 11, citing people familiar with the matter. Neither side has signed anything. The report said a deal could come soon if talks hold up and no other suitor jumps in.

We couldn’t find a comment from Amazon or Decart. Every outlet we found leans on the Journal’s anonymous sources (a lot of echo for one set of voices). So treat this as one report, widely matched, and not a done deal. It is the sort of big-money tech story that moves fast, much like the Starbucks Chipotle takeover report did.

What Decart actually does

Brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf, two Israeli engineers, founded Decart in 2023 together with Moshe Shalev. The company is based in San Francisco and employs about 100 people, according to Calcalist. That small team is the target of the reported Amazon buying Decart talks.

Its products read like a greatest-hits list of what AI companies want right now. Lucy, per Decart’s own website, edits live video in real time. Oasis generates simulated worlds used to train and test robotics and self-driving systems.

The company also makes software that helps AI models run across different chips. That includes Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs and Amazon’s own Trainium processors, as The Media Line reports.

Why Amazon wants a Decart acquisition

Here’s the thing: Amazon already knows Decart well. It gave the startup early access to its Trainium3 chips in 2025. It also joined Decart’s May funding round as a customer, according to Calcalist.

Radical Ventures led that round, which raised $300 million, and Nvidia joined as a new investor. The Journal, citing PitchBook, put the valuation at nearly $4 billion. Calcalist counts about $450 million raised in total.

So why would the Amazon Decart deal cost $7 billion? Calcalist says the chip software could help Amazon compete with Nvidia in AI infrastructure.

That is the quiet, expensive fight behind most AI headlines. Whoever makes it easy to run models on non-Nvidia chips gets a real seat at the table. Power is the other great bottleneck, as we saw when SpaceX started building its own turbine parts.

The Amazon $7 billion AI deal price tag is the story

Decart’s valuation has moved fast. Calcalist traces it from a $21 million seed round led by Sequoia, to roughly $500 million, to $3.1 billion in August 2025, to about $4 billion this May. A $7 billion price would be another giant leap.

It would also be one of Amazon’s largest acquisitions in recent years. And per The Media Line, it would rank among the biggest exits ever for an Israeli-founded tech company.

That said, Calcalist notes that Decart’s commercial business is far smaller than the valuation under discussion.

In other words, buyers are paying for technology and talent, not today’s revenue. If the Amazon Decart deal closes at that price, it will be a bet on the future.

Other suitors in the Decart takeover talks

Amazon isn’t the first name in this story. Anthropic had reportedly considered buying Decart at about $6 billion and withdrew after due diligence, according to Calcalist. Nvidia also reportedly pursued the company in talks that produced no deal. No credible report backs the claim that SpaceX circled Decart with a formal bid.

That history cuts both ways. Big names clearly want in. But Decart takeover talks have fallen apart before.

What to watch next

The Journal’s report says a deal could land soon, though it gave no date. Watch for an official word from Amazon or Decart. If the two sides sign, regulators could take a look, but we found no reporting on timing for that.

So the real question is simple. Does the Amazon Decart deal close fast, or does Decart’s dance card get one more name on it?
