Hurricane Isaias Reshuffles College Football Week 6, but Georgia-Alabama Is Still On

Hurricane Isaias has moved or cancelled several Week 6 games, but No. 2 Georgia at No.

Hurricane Isaias is forcing college football to adjust its plans, but the biggest game on the board is holding its ground. No. 2 Georgia at No. 6 Alabama is still set for Saturday night, according to CBS Sports. Several smaller games are not so lucky. That is the state of Hurricane Isaias college football as of Friday.

Nature, it turns out, does not care about your College Football Playoff résumé.

Georgia-Alabama storm: the game is still on the calendar

Kickoff in Tuscaloosa is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT) on ABC at Bryant-Denny Stadium, per the gameday schedule WSB-TV reported. So far, Alabama has not changed its plans. School and SEC officials are monitoring the storm, and the Georgia-Alabama storm watch continues.

The school’s position has been consistent all week. On Oct. 7, Alabama Athletics said, “At this time, kickoff remains scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday,” as Yahoo Sports reported.

The bigger variable is the weather itself. ABC 33/40 chief meteorologist James Spann wrote Thursday morning that “the weather looks favorable for Saturday night’s Alabama/Georgia game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.” However, Sports Illustrated noted that Spann expects the worst wind and rain Saturday morning into early afternoon, hours before kickoff. For fans, that timing is the whole ballgame.

Game day will look different in Tuscaloosa

Alabama said Thursday that it will not permit tailgating on campus before noon. The school also cancelled pregame events, including the Elephant Stomp. So even if the game goes off on time, the day around it will feel smaller than usual. It is a reminder of how Hurricane Isaias college football disruptions reach beyond the field.

That matters for travelers, too. Georgia fans heading west should plan around the storm and check official channels before they leave. Our earlier report on the storm’s Gulf Coast approach explains what those drivers could face.

The Isaias football schedule: games that did move

As of midday Friday, several other games had already changed, according to CBS Sports. Counts vary by outlet, so here is what outlets have reported:

  • Rice at East Carolina: moved to 1 p.m. ET in Greenville, N.C., from 4 p.m.
  • Florida A&M at Alabama State: moved from Saturday to Friday in Montgomery.
  • Southern at Prairie View A&M: pushed back one hour, to 4 p.m. ET Saturday.
  • Davidson at Presbyterian: moved up to noon ET, 5.5 hours earlier than planned.
  • East Tennessee State at The Citadel: kicks at noon in Charleston, S.C.

Sports Illustrated reported the Florida A&M game kicked off at noon ET Friday, with the broadcast moving from HBCU Go to SWAC TV. Meanwhile, the storm also cancelled West Florida’s home game in Pensacola. Bethune-Cookman at Alabama A&M is keeping its 7 p.m. CT kickoff, though up to 3 inches of rain is forecast for Huntsville. Across the board, the Isaias football schedule keeps shifting.

A storm that took its time

Isaias formed Oct. 6, and its eye became visible on satellite Thursday, making it the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, according to CNN. CNN says the wait for a first hurricane is unprecedented in the satellite era. CBS reports the storm strengthened Friday into a Category 3 hurricane, with Gulf Coast evacuations underway.

Landfall is forecast late Friday or early Saturday along the northern Gulf Coast, Fox Weather reports. Forecasters cite life-threatening storm surge, flooding rain and possible tornadoes across parts of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. Intensity figures have varied between outlets, so the latest National Hurricane Center advisory is the number to trust. Nobody planning Hurricane Isaias college football travel should ignore that advisory. For the latest numbers, see our storm surge forecast breakdown.

Why hurricane college football games matter in this matchup

This is no ordinary Saturday. It is a top-10 SEC showdown, and CBS notes the winner could potentially take the No. 1 ranking. Alabama is coming off a 56-23 win at Mississippi State. Georgia beat Vanderbilt 38-14 at home.

So the stakes are enormous, and the sky is not cooperating. A delay or a change would ripple through the playoff conversation, not just one conference race. That is why hurricane college football games draw such close attention.

What to watch next in Hurricane Isaias college football

The situation is changing hourly. Athlon Sports says more schedule changes are possible, and Alabama and the SEC are still monitoring conditions. Check official school channels before you drive anywhere, and see our Friday morning brief for the broader picture.

For now, the plan is simple: kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT, and a lot of people hoping the storm moves out before the band marches in.
