The 2026 RBC Heritage delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, as Matt Fitzpatrick defeated world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
This was Harbour Town at its best—tight, strategic, and unforgiving—where execution under pressure defines everything.
🏆 Final Leaderboard

- -16: Si Woo Kim (KOR)
- -13: Collin Morikawa (USA), Harris English (USA), Ludvig Åberg (SWE)

The Finish: From Mistake to Magic
Fitzpatrick’s win wasn’t smooth—it was resilient.
- He entered Sunday with a three-shot lead
- Played the first 17 holes at 2-under without a bogey
- Stepped onto the 18th tee with control of the tournament
Then came the twist.
On the par-4 18th:
- Both Fitzpatrick and Scheffler missed the green in regulation
- Scheffler got up-and-down for par (67 final round)
- Fitzpatrick’s chip came up short, leading to a bogey five
Just like that, the tournament headed to a playoff.
The Playoff Moment
Back on the 18th, minutes later, Fitzpatrick flipped the script.
- Struck a world-class approach shot into scoring position
- Stepped up and drained the birdie putt
- Closed out the tournament on the 73rd hole
It was composure under pressure—and redemption in real time.
Fitzpatrick after the win:
“To go toe-to-toe with Scottie and get over the line at the 73rd hole is special.”
A Duel With the World No. 1
Scheffler pushed Fitzpatrick all the way.
- Closed the gap throughout Sunday
- Shot 67 (-4) in the final round
- Forced the playoff with a clutch par on 18
But ultimately, Fitzpatrick delivered when it mattered most.
Scheffler said it best:
“Every time he needed something, he made something happen… he earned this one.”
