College Football Week 6 Picks: Why CBS Likes the Under in Georgia-Alabama and Oregon-UCLA

CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli likes the under in both Georgia-Alabama and Oregon-UCLA. Here's the reasoning and the risks before Saturday.

The college football Week 6 picks are in, and two of the biggest games on the board share a surprising theme: expect fewer points than the sportsbooks do. In fact, CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli went under on both Georgia-Alabama and Oregon-UCLA in his latest Six Pack column.

That is a bold call on a Saturday loaded with ranked teams and playoff stakes. So here is the logic, and what could blow it up. For the full slate, see our Week 6 preview of the loaded Saturday slate.

Georgia Alabama Pick: The Under Has Plenty of Reasons

First, the matchup. No. 2 Georgia visits No. 6 Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Tuscaloosa. Fornelli’s pick is the Under 52.5 at -110 on DraftKings. He points to unanswered offensive questions for both teams, plus the weather.

However, the weather part deserves a caution flag. CBS has run a headline about the SEC monitoring a tropical storm ahead of this game. Still, we could not confirm any official forecast or league statement. So treat the rain angle as a watch item, not a fact.

The stakes are huge either way. CBS says Alabama is a 1.5-point home favorite, and the winner has a serious shot at No. 1 in the country. Georgia beat Alabama in the 2025 SEC Championship Game, so this one has a little payback baked in.

Kickoff is listed at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Meanwhile, Georgia lists the game as sold out.

Oregon UCLA Pick: A Big Ten Test With a Quarterback Question

The other under pick is UCLA at Oregon. Fornelli likes Under 58.5 at -114 on FanDuel. He cites questions about UCLA’s running game against the Ducks. He also wonders who will start at quarterback for Oregon.

That quarterback question is real, but it is not settled. CBS has reported that Dante Moore is unlikely to play, so Dylan Raiola will likely start. Because we did not find an official Oregon injury report, check the status before you bet anything.

Meanwhile, No. 21 UCLA is 4-0 and comes in hot after a 54-3 win at Maryland. No. 13 Oregon is 3-1, with a loss at Oklahoma State and a 41-27 win over USC on Sept. 26. ESPN lists kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET at Autzen Stadium on CBS.

Oregon is a double-digit favorite, around 11.5 points at most books. That is a big number for a team that just lost a shootout to Oklahoma State. Even so, the last meeting went the Ducks’ way, 34-13 in 2024.

Here’s the Thing About Week 6 Betting Picks

Totals look easy until they are not. A shaky quarterback, a rainy night, or one defensive touchdown can wreck an under in a hurry. Meanwhile, the line itself keeps moving. Different books list Oregon-UCLA anywhere from 58.5 to 60.5.

So the pick matters less than the number you get. A half-point in either direction changes the whole bet. Shop around, because Fornelli’s prices were tied to specific sportsbooks at specific moments. Even the best college football Week 6 picks lose value when the line moves.

One more reminder: these are opinions, not guarantees. Fornelli’s picks are his own read on the games. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and skip it entirely if gambling is a problem for you.

What to Check Before Kickoff on These Week 6 Picks

Two things will move the needle before Saturday. First, Oregon’s quarterback news. Second, the weather in Tuscaloosa. Lines may shift on both, which can change these Week 6 college football predictions overnight.

Same-day slate notes are worth a glance too. Texas and Oklahoma meet in the Red River Rivalry, and Nebraska hosts reigning champion Indiana. If you want more on the Texas side, read our Red River Rivalry preview. It is a full Saturday.

After the games, our college football recap of the biggest wins and ranking shakeups will show how the weekend played out.

So the real question is simple. Do you trust two offenses with open questions to stay quiet in the biggest game of the day? Fornelli does. We will find out Saturday night.
