Twelve years after GTA V, the wait finally has a due date. GTA 6 launches Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar just dropped its final launch trailer to prove it.
The 90-second clip landed with no warning, and it comes with a fresh Justice song to boot.
That’s the short answer to what people keep typing into Google. Here’s the rest, because after a 12-year wait since GTA V, the details matter.
GTA 6 release date and platforms: the dates to circle
Rockstar’s own newswire put it plainly: Grand Theft Auto VI will release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. The company framed the later date as extra time for polish.
It’s a console launch only. The PlayStation listing says PS5 and nothing for PS4. Xbox Series X|S is also confirmed.
Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC date, so PC players are waiting again (it’s practically a hobby by now). That’s the same playbook Rockstar used with GTA V, which hit consoles first and reached PC more than a year later.
One more date matters if you pre-ordered. Digital preloads begin November 12, and VICE says US retailers list boxed copies to ship that day too.
The game itself stays locked until the 19th. Rockstar hasn’t said what time it unlocks.
What the new GTA 6 trailer shows (and doesn’t)
The launch trailer debuts “Flower in a Hurricane,” a track from the game’s score composers, Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Rockstar says it captured the footage in-game on a standard PS5, not a PS5 Pro.
Story-wise, it follows Jason and Lucia in what Rockstar calls “Vice City, USA.” An easy score goes sideways and drags them into a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida.
Fans also caught that Jason served in the army and left on bad terms, and that Lucia phones him from jail.
Fair warning: this is the third trailer, and The Verge says it reveals little that’s new. Think of it as a victory lap, not a plot reveal.
How much GTA 6 costs
Pre-orders opened June 25. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99, both on PS5 and Xbox, per Consequence.
That’s about $10 above the usual blockbuster price. Plenty of people had braced for a triple-digit sticker, so the standard price landed as a mild relief.
Still, with back-to-school costs squeezing American families this fall, an $80 game is a tough sell for some households.
Every pre-order gets the Vintage Vice City Pack. VICE reports players can upgrade to Ultimate after launch.
The music is a big part of the pitch
Justice composed the original score for Rockstar’s new game, and “Flower in a Hurricane” is on the official soundtrack, Consequence reports.
Rolling Stone, via Yahoo, reports that writers produced roughly three dozen original songs for the game. Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards are among the contributors.
The full track list is still under wraps.
Here’s the thing: why GTA 6 matters beyond gaming
Rockstar is a Take-Two subsidiary, and this is the biggest bet on its calendar. It’s the first mainline Grand Theft Auto since 2013, which means a whole generation grew up waiting for it.
Retailers, console makers and a lot of wallets are all lining up for the same Thursday. Even Wall Street’s earnings and inflation watch may feel the ripple of a launch this big.
So what’s left to learn about GTA 6? The unlock time, the full soundtrack and, eventually, whether PC gets a date. Rockstar has cleared the one question that mattered most: November 19 is on.
Now the real question is what time the 19th actually starts, and how many people will be awake for it.
