Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso Concept Revealed Ahead of Paris Debut, and the V6 Is Still Just a Plan

Alfa Romeo has shown the Cuorerosso, a 2+2 design manifesto that hints at a 2028 C-SUV and a V6 hybrid future.

Alfa Romeo has spent years promising a car like this, and now the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso is here. The brand posted official images and a press kit on Sunday, one day before its showing at the Paris Motor Show.

The name means “red heart.” That is a bold choice for a company that has spent a decade teasing fans with beautiful ideas and slow-moving showrooms.

What the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso actually is

It is a four-seat 2+2 coupé with a fastback roofline, according to Autocar. Alfa calls it a “manifesto,” not a preview of a production model. In other words, think of it as a mood board with wheels.

Alfa calls its design philosophy “Bellezza Necessaria,” or “Necessary Beauty.” The company says it strips out the superfluous so that looks, function, technology and quality land in one design language. Per the official Stellantis press release, the car measures 4,700 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,331 mm tall. It also weighs 1,750 kg.

The drag coefficient is 0.28. Alfa credits an uninterrupted shape, a truncated tail and a low integrated diffuser for that number.

The details that make it worth a second look

The doors are rear-hinged, and there are no conventional handles. Instead, a touch control on the roof opens them, according to Italian outlet Motorbox. It is dramatic, and it is also a great way to confuse a valet.

Alfa named the paint “Liquid Ink Red.” Inside, a reconfigurable digital instrument called the “Cannocchiale Vivente” takes center stage. Meanwhile, the cabin uses hand-worked Poltrona Frau nubuck and a breathable fabric developed with Luna Rossa’s ocean-sailing experience.

The hardware list includes forged wheels that reinterpret Alfa’s classic “telephone-dial” look. It also lists air suspension, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and steer-by-wire.

The V6 question, and why it matters

Here is the part car fans will argue about. Alfa says the Cuorerosso concept anticipates a multi-energy lineup: full-electric, plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid and full hybrid. Alfa imagines the “epitome of performance” as a 2.9-liter V6 full-hybrid with Q4 all-wheel drive.

Notice the word “imagined.” Motor1 reports that the twin-turbo V6 from the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio underpins the concept. The press kit, however, gives no power or performance figures at all.

So treat the V6 as the plan on paper, not a confirmed running powertrain.

Here’s the thing: this Alfa Romeo concept car is really about the brand’s next move

Alfa’s lineup is aging. The Giulia is 11 years old, and Autocar says the Stelvio replacement has been “mired in delays.” Against that backdrop, a gorgeous concept is a statement of intent. It also lands in a week when BMW pulled out of the Paris show to cut costs, which gives Alfa more room in the spotlight.

CEO Santo Ficili, who runs both Alfa Romeo and Maserati, told Auto Express the concept points to a model launching in early 2028 in the upper C-SUV segment. He also said Alfa is “evaluating some possible evolution” of its larger D-segment lineup. That could mean a Stelvio successor before the end of the decade.

Italian outlet Quattroruote adds that the 2028 model will carry Cuorerosso styling cues. It also reports that the future Giulietta will inherit looks from the concept. None of that appears in the press release, so it comes down to the CEO’s word.

Ficili framed the mission as creating cars “designed for those who love to drive.” Asked about the Cuorerosso itself, he was refreshingly blunt: it is “a concept car, of course.”

What to watch next for the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso after Paris

The car goes on public view in Paris starting October 12, with the show running through October 18, according to one trade outlet. Reports have not yet covered price, a production decision or an electric-only version. Nor has Alfa said whether the Alfa Cuorerosso previews anything for the US market.

Elsewhere in the industry, rivals are busy too. The VW ID. Tiguan debut shows how fast the competition is moving on range and practicality.

So the real question is the one every concept raises. Will the cars Alfa actually builds in 2028 look anything like the one it just showed us?
