Delta Travel Waiver: Hurricane Isaias Hits Nine Gulf Coast Airports

Delta's travel waiver for Hurricane Isaias covers nine Gulf Coast airports through Oct. 10, with free rebooking until Oct. 13. Here is who qualifies and how to change your flight.

Delta has issued a travel waiver for nine Gulf Coast airports as Hurricane Isaias approaches.

The Delta travel waiver for Hurricane Isaias covers nine Gulf Coast airports, and the clock on using it is already ticking. If you are booked into the Florida Panhandle, Alabama or Mississippi this weekend, here is what Delta is actually offering.

What the Delta travel waiver covers

Delta’s advisory applies to travel on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10, 2026, to, from or through nine airports. In Florida, that means Pensacola, Panama City and Destin-Fort Walton Beach. In Alabama, it means Montgomery, Mobile, Dothan and Birmingham. In Mississippi, it means Gulfport-Biloxi and Columbus.

That is a wide net. According to TheTravel, it is the most extensive waiver among the major airlines. Notably, New Orleans is not on Delta’s list, even though other carriers have included it.

How to rebook with the Delta rebooking waiver

Here is the part that matters for your wallet. Customers must change their flight on or before Oct. 13, and the new departure must also land on or before Oct. 13. Rebook in the same cabin within that window, and Delta waives the fare difference.

Push the new trip past Oct. 13, and a fare difference may apply. Prefer not to fly at all? You can cancel and take an eCredit for future travel, as WSB-TV reports. One catch: per Open Jaw, the waiver applies to tickets issued on or before Oct. 7. Booked after that? Call Delta before you assume you are covered.

Other airlines are moving too

Delta is not alone. American, United and Southwest all have waivers for Gulf Coast airports, and JetBlue is offering one for New Orleans. The details differ by carrier. United’s, for instance, covers Panama City, Gulfport-Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans and Pensacola for Oct. 9 and 10, while Southwest’s runs through Oct. 10.

Because the windows are not identical, check your own airline’s page rather than assuming the rules match the Delta travel waiver. Airlines are also juggling higher costs right now, as our look at Delta’s fuel-driven forecast cut shows.

Airports are closing despite the Delta hurricane waiver

This is not only a paperwork story. Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport closed Thursday until further notice, and Pensacola closed Friday morning, according to Travel Market Report. Neither has announced when it will reopen. A Delta hurricane waiver helps you rebook, but it cannot reopen a runway.

Here is the thing for Atlanta travelers

Delta is Atlanta-based, and its Atlanta hub funnels traffic through many of these Southeast cities. So a storm parked on the Gulf Coast can ripple into delays and missed connections far from the water. That is the quiet cost of a hurricane: it does not have to hit your city to wreck your trip. If your plans change, the Delta flight change waiver is your first stop.

Landfall is expected on the northern Gulf coast late Friday night, with the storm moving inland Saturday. Our corrected Isaias advisory on storm surge and landfall has the latest track. Airlines may also extend their waivers depending on how the storm plays out, as FOX 9 notes.

So the smart move is simple. Rebook early, keep the Oct. 13 deadline in mind, and do not wait for an airport to close on you. Because by then, everyone else is in the same phone queue.
