TIME’s 300 Best Inventions of 2026 Range From Vineyard Robots to a Dog Tracker That Talks to Satellites

TIME's best inventions of 2026 list is out with 300 picks. Here's who made it, and why that viral slide needs a second look.

TIME's best inventions of 2026 list includes 300 picks and 100 Special Mentions.

Three hundred inventions, 100 Special Mentions, and not a single “number one.” TIME just dropped the best inventions of 2026, and it did not go small. The list landed on October 15.

If your Instagram feed lit up with a slick, magazine-style carousel today, that’s why. Here’s what we can actually confirm, and what’s still just a pretty slide.

What is on TIME’s best inventions of 2026 list

This is TIME’s annual package, and TIME says it has run for more than 25 years. The 2026 collection lists 300 inventions, the same count as last year.

It is not a ranking, though. Nobody gets a gold medal. The honorees are grouped by industry or category, and each gets a short write-up in print and online.

A few of the named winners show how wide the net was:

  • Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Evo Cinema, an instant camera that adds video.
  • Saga Robotics’ Thorvald, an autonomous vineyard robot that zaps crops with UV-C light.
  • The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 running shoe.
  • The Fi Ultra dog tracker, which uses T-Satellite with Starlink.
  • Yoodli, an AI platform for practicing communication.
  • Medtronic’s Stealth AXiS surgical system and a Corsano wearable.
  • Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra.

NASA got a nod too. The agency says its Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope was recognized on the list. It also says Roman launched August 30 from Kennedy Space Center.

How TIME picked the top inventions 2026

The process is part newsroom, part open call. Editors and correspondents around the world nominate products, and companies can also apply online. Judges then weigh contenders on originality, efficacy, ambition and impact, with extra attention to health care, AI and green energy.

So yes, a vineyard robot and a surgical system can share a list with a sneaker. That’s the whole point. Gadget fans who like this kind of range may also enjoy Tesla’s Roadster unveiling, which came with its own flying demo.

Here’s the thing about that viral slide

Here’s the part worth a raised eyebrow. A carousel from the @daytrading account is making the rounds, with a TIME-style masthead and a gray, faceless humanoid robot front and center.

I couldn’t match that robot, or the cinema-style camera rig and the flat dish on an arm, to a specific 2026 honoree. The graphic looks like a magazine cover, but nothing confirms it’s TIME’s real cover. It reads like a third-party thumbnail. Last year’s list did feature humanoids like Figure 03 and Unitree R1, so don’t assume the robot on your screen belongs to this year’s class.

The TIME invention list itself is real, and the timing checks out. The slide is just a slide.

What to do with the best inventions of 2026

Companies are already sending out press releases, as they do every year. Local TV sites are mining the list for gift-guide picks, including affordable electronics. Expect more of both in the coming days.

My advice: skip the carousel and go straight to TIME’s collection page before you share any product as a winner. It takes about a minute, and it keeps you from passing along last year’s robot as this year’s news. If you want more tech that’s actually verified, our look at a crewless ship joining a carrier’s escort is a good next stop.

So which of the 300 would you actually pay for? My money is on the dog tracker that talks to satellites. My dog agrees.
