Ruoning Yin Wins Again as Hye-Jin Choi’s Winless Wait Drags On

Ruoning Yin won her second straight LPGA title in Shanghai. Here is what changed on the golf leaderboards and what comes next in South Korea.

Three winners, two continents, one Sunday, and the next stop is South Korea on Thursday. The loudest of the three was Ruoning Yin, who won the Buick LPGA Shanghai on Oct. 18 for her second straight LPGA title.

Here is what changed on the leaderboards, and what to watch when two tours land in Korea.

Ruoning Yin Wins in Shanghai

Yin began the final round two shots behind Hye-Jin Choi at Sheshan Golf Club. She closed with a 4-under 68 for 11-under 277 and beat Choi by a single stroke, according to Golf Today.

The deciding moment came on the back nine, where the two were tied. Then a four-foot birdie at the 16th broke the tie. Choi shot 71 and finished at 10-under 278, one shot short (it’s always one shot, isn’t it?).

It is Yin’s seventh LPGA Tour win. It also follows her victory at the FM Championship, which makes her the seventh multiple winner of the 2026 season. She took home $480,000 from a $3.2 million purse.

The win did something for the record book, too. Yin has now passed $3 million in earnings this season and $10 million for her career, Athlon Sports reports. She is the only player from China to win this event, and in fact she did it in 2024 as well.

“This course is very challenging, and it played really, really long this week,” Yin said, per Australian Golf Digest.

Nelly Korda has owned much of this season, as our story on her first U.S. Women’s Open title shows. The Buick LPGA Shanghai champion is now crashing that party.

Choi Is Still Waiting Behind the LPGA Winner

Choi led after every round, which makes this one sting. She has made more than 100 LPGA starts since 2022 without a win.

She has held or shared the 54-hole lead five times and has not converted any of them. Five.

Still, she keeps showing up on the first page of the leaderboard. That is the kind of record that eventually breaks the other way. This week, though, the LPGA winner was Yin, and Choi had to settle for second.

Chacarra Takes the Race to Dubai Lead

Over in India, Eugenio Chacarra of Spain won the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club. It is his third win of 2026. As a result, he moved to first in the Race to Dubai with three events left, Sky Sports reports.

Rory McIlroy had a quiet exit. He shot a 2-over final round, finished in a share of 42nd and slipped to third in the standings.

So the race that looked like his to lose is now Chacarra’s to defend. Our earlier look at McIlroy’s hunt for Monty’s record now reads like a different story.

Vijay Singh Wins on the Champions Tour

Meanwhile, Vijay Singh won the SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C., with rounds of 69-69-69 for 9 under, the PGA Tour’s leaderboard shows. He earned $345,000.

Three rounds of 69. Nobody does steady quite like Singh.

The main PGA Tour took the week off. Its last events were the Baycurrent Classic, won by Michael Brennan, and the Bank of Utah Championship, won by Austin Smotherman. For players still chasing cards, Q-School tees off Oct. 20.

What Ruoning Yin and the Tours Face Next

The action moves to South Korea. The LPGA plays the BMW Ladies Championship in Haenam-gun from Oct. 22 to 25, and Choi heads there fresh off her runner-up finish. The DP World Tour plays the Genesis Championship the same days at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan.

Here’s the thing: both money races are tightening just as the calendar runs short, so every week from here counts. Can Chacarra hold the Race to Dubai lead, or does McIlroy pounce with the Abu Dhabi Championship (Nov. 5 to 8) and the DP World Tour Championship (Nov. 12 to 15) still to come?

On the LPGA side, the season finale is the CME Group Tour Championship on Nov. 22 at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla. Ruoning Yin sits fifth in the Race to the CME Globe, behind Nelly Korda, Jeeno Thitikul, Miyu Yamashita and Haeran Ryu, according to the LPGA.

With two wins in a row, she is the player nobody wants to see on the leaderboard.
