Anthropic Could Open Its Books Friday: $16.3 Billion in Sales, an $80.7 Billion Loss

Anthropic may publicly file its IPO paperwork as soon as Friday, giving investors their first audited look at the books.

Anthropic is reportedly set to file its IPO paperwork publicly as soon as Friday.

Anthropic made about $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026 and posted an $80.7 billion net loss. Those are the numbers Wall Street expects to see in black and white, because the Claude maker is reportedly set to publicly file its IPO paperwork with the SEC as soon as Friday. The Anthropic IPO filing would be the first official look at its books. That is according to Yahoo Finance, which cites three people familiar with the plans.

Anthropic did not respond to requests for comment on the timing. So treat Friday as a report, not a promise.

Why the Anthropic IPO filing matters now

The company already filed a draft S-1 confidentially in June. That draft was private. The next step is the public version, and that is where retail and institutional investors get their first look at audited numbers. We already covered how Wall Street is leaning in ahead of Anthropic’s investor meeting.

Here is the rule that sets the clock. A company using the confidential process must make its registration materials public at least 15 calendar days before the formal investor roadshow begins. If the filing lands Friday, Oct. 23, the roadshow could start no earlier than about Nov. 7.

Anthropic may also be the IPO market’s last hope for 2026. A strong debut could restart a market that leaned heavily on SpaceX earlier this year. A delay would leave less room to get a deal done before the calendar runs out.

The numbers an Anthropic S-1 would have to explain

The figures circulating come from a Wall Street Journal report on a new draft prospectus, not from a public SEC filing. They could change. Even so, they are eye-catching:

  • First-half 2026 revenue of about $16.3 billion, versus roughly $1.1 billion a year earlier.
  • A net loss of $80.7 billion for the same stretch, according to TipRanks. Management reportedly blamed the swing on a higher fair value of bonds that converted into shares.
  • About $450 billion in noncancelable cloud compute commitments over 10 years, per the WSJ.

An $80 billion loss next to $16 billion in sales is not a typo.

Much of the loss appears to be an accounting effect from those converted bonds, so it is not quite the same as burning cash. A public Anthropic S-1 should spell that out in plain terms. For more on the revenue side, see our look at the $16.8 billion quarter and its big asterisk.

What the valuation question means for the Anthropic stock offering

Wall Street expected Anthropic to raise as much as $100 billion at a $2 trillion valuation. Now some investors are talking about roughly $1.5 trillion instead, and Q3 revenue growth has reportedly slowed to 45%.

That matters well beyond Anthropic. Amazon and Alphabet are investors in the company, suppliers of its computing power and rivals all at once. A lower IPO price would shrink their paper gains.

Anthropic has published no price or range, and no IPO date has been announced.

Here’s the thing: what to watch in the Anthropic public filing

If you own a tech fund, an index fund or shares in the big cloud companies, you already have some exposure to this story. A blockbuster debut could lift AI sentiment. A shaky one could extend the recent AI selloff.

The filing timing matters for your money in a practical way. The public document starts the 15-day clock, so Friday sets when you could first buy shares in a deal. It also gives you audited numbers to read before you decide. Without that filing, you are guessing off leaks and headlines.

The first thing to watch is EDGAR on Friday. The Anthropic public filing should show audited financials, the share count and, eventually, a price range. After that, look for an Anthropic announcement and the roadshow date.

One sentence in that filing could move more money than any product launch this year. Friday may tell us which way it goes.
