A viral screenshot says Harry Kane “is staying until 2029.” The Harry Kane contract story is close to that, but not quite: he is set to stay at Bayern Munich through June 2029, and “set to” is doing real work in that sentence. The England captain has agreed a new deal in principle, according to Sky Sports. Nothing has been signed or announced yet.
The screenshot is stronger than anything anyone can confirm today. I’ll say it plainly: this looks like a done deal, and it still isn’t one.

The Bayern Munich record behind the Kane new deal
Here is what is official. On Friday, Sept. 18, Kane scored a penalty against Union Berlin for his 100th Bundesliga goal. It came in his 98th league game, and Bayern confirmed it made him the fastest player ever to get there. The old record was 129 games, held by Dieter Müller.
Read that again. He beat a record by 31 games. Bayern also won that night 7-0, and Kane scored twice. Records like that make any Kane Bayern deal look like the easiest call in Munich.
What the Kane contract extension would mean
His current deal runs out in June 2027. A new one through 2029 would add two years. Sky Sports says the club is now finalizing the paperwork.
The numbers explain why Bayern is moving. Sky Sports credits him with 154 goals in 156 matches for the club since he left Tottenham in 2023. That is basically a goal a game, for years, which is the kind of stat you’d normally only see in a video game on easy mode. He has won two Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. He is also a leading contender for the men’s Ballon d’Or.
So who exactly is Bayern supposed to replace him with? Nobody scores like that. For a wider look at how top clubs are spending right now, see our report on the Bezos consortium’s push for a Liverpool stake.
Not everyone in Munich is celebrating yet
Bayern’s own people are being careful. Sporting director Max Eberl told reporters he had read the reports but “haven’t heard anything.” He added there was nothing to announce yet.
That sounds like a club that wants to be the one to break its own news. It does not sound like a club that disagrees with the idea of Kane staying at Bayern.
Much of the reporting also traces back to a single source chain, Sky Sports and Sky Germany. Other outlets mostly repeat it. Reports of salary figures and an unresolved image-rights package are not confirmed, so I’m leaving them out.
Why the Harry Kane contract timing matters
Here’s the thing: if you root for Bayern, the picture is simple. The best striker in the world right now, by the numbers, wants to stay, and the club wants him to stay. If you root for a rival that hoped he might walk in 2027, that window just got a lot smaller. Barcelona and others were reportedly watching his contract. Barcelona’s schedule is already crowded, as our look at PSG’s next matches against Barcelona shows.
One more detail to watch. Reports say Bayern wants the signature in place before the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London. If that night is tonight, an official announcement could land at any time.
Meanwhile, the football world has plenty else to argue about, from the Spain-Argentina World Cup final to the next transfer rumor. Until the ink is dry, Kane’s future is a handshake and a headline.
The goals, at least, are already signed, sealed and counted.
