A viral Instagram slide says a home robot you can actually buy made TIME’s big annual list. Here’s where the 1X NEO TIME best inventions claim stands: the 1X NEO humanoid is said to be on the best inventions of 2026 list, and I went looking for proof.
TIME did publish its Best Inventions of 2026 list on Oct. 15, and it’s huge: 300 entries, which is less a shortlist than a small town. Categories include Aerospace and Aviation, Agriculture and AI. Entries on the list include Joby Aviation, Saga Robotics’ Thorvald and Anthropic’s Claude Code. We broke down the full TIME 2026 inventions list separately, from vineyard robots to a satellite dog tracker.
What We Could Confirm About the 1X NEO Humanoid TIME Claim
The NEO claim traces back to exactly one source: an Instagram carousel from the “daytrading” account. Slide two shows NEO with the caption “A handy home helper.” The screenshot cuts off the caption, and the other slides aren’t visible.
I could not find a TIME page for NEO. I also couldn’t find a statement from 1X Technologies about the honor. TIME’s listing didn’t show a robotics section in the parts I could see, so the list may be only partly visible to me.
So I’m not going to tell you NEO made the list as fact. It might have. It just isn’t confirmed.
Other honorees did speak up quickly. NASA said TIME recognized its Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope on Thursday. Samsung announced its Galaxy S26 Ultra made the cut, and TIME has now named its Galaxy devices four times. Companies love a TIME badge, so a press release from 1X would be the quick tell.
What the NEO Home Robot TIME List Buzz Is About
The robot itself is real, at least on paper. 1X opened pre-orders on Oct. 27, 2025 and calls NEO a consumer-ready humanoid built for chores around the house. Reported pricing is $20,000 to own, or $499 a month. The company also showed off a new robotic hand for NEO that could change what humanoids can do.
Here’s the thing: that’s a $20,000 purchase, or $499 every month, so before a slide talks you into anything, you want receipts.
Shipping is the harder question. One review site said it hadn’t verified a single customer delivery as of mid-July. 1X said some buyers would get theirs in 2026 and others later. Even so, I couldn’t confirm the current status with the company.
Why the Home Robot Race Matters Beyond the TIME 2026 Inventions NEO Rumor
This isn’t a random product. TIME’s 2025 list had a robotics category that included Figure 03, another household robot. Home humanoids have gone from sci-fi to a line on a best-of list in about a year, and that’s the real story. The wider robotics revolution only makes the race hotter.
So who gets the honor? Keep an eye on TIME’s robotics page and on 1X’s own channels. If NEO is on the list, the company will not stay quiet about it.
If it isn’t, that Instagram slide just got a lot of people excited about a robot that still has to prove it can fold the laundry.
