One retaining clip is all that keeps a Land Cruiser’s fuel line from coming apart. Toyota is recalling 105,794 of them in the U.S. because that line near the tank can separate and leak gasoline, which raises the risk of a fire. This Toyota Land Cruiser recall covers model years 2024 through 2027, the fix is free, and if you own one, you should check your VIN today.
Federal safety regulators posted the recall on Wednesday, as Reuters reported. Toyota dated its own notice Oct. 14. NHTSA tracks the case as campaign 26V673.

What the Land Cruiser fuel leak recall is about
Here is the problem in plain terms. A resin fuel tube at the tank connects to a metal tube that carries fuel to the engine, and a retaining clip holds the two together. If that clip gets lifted or displaced, the tubes can separate, according to The Epoch Times.
Fuel can keep leaking until the gasoline engine in the hybrid system shuts off. NHTSA put the danger bluntly in its recall report: “A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.”
(Regulators rarely get more direct than that.)
Is my Land Cruiser affected?
Here’s the thing: this is not just the older trucks. Toyota built the vehicles between Nov. 29, 2023, and Oct. 1, 2026, so 2026 and 2027 owners are covered too. Some early coverage said 2024 through 2026, so do not assume your newer truck is exempt. In fact, this Toyota SUV recall reaches further than the first headlines suggested.
Toyota estimates only about 1% of the recalled SUVs actually have the defect. That is the good news. The less comfortable news is that, per the NHTSA report, Toyota has not yet determined why the tubes disconnect or how many vehicles are truly affected. Meanwhile, the company has logged 23 field reports and 64 warranty claims, Motor1 reports.
I could not find any reported fires, crashes or injuries tied to this problem in the coverage I checked. Still, a fuel leak near a hot hybrid powertrain is not something to shrug off.
What the free fix looks like
Dealers will inspect the connection and add a supplemental clamp. If needed, they will also replace the resin fuel tube. It costs you nothing, and that is the whole point of a recall.
The slow part is the paperwork. Owner letters start mailing Nov. 29, and Toyota expects to notify every known owner by Dec. 13. In other words, some owners could go about two months without a letter. Because of that gap, the Land Cruiser recall is worth acting on before anything arrives in your mailbox.
How to check your VIN for the Toyota Land Cruiser recall
- Look up your VIN or plate at Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 if you want to talk to a person.
- Ask your dealer about scheduling the repair once your truck shows as affected.
If you smell gasoline around your Land Cruiser, or see a puddle under it, do not wait for a letter. Park it outside, away from your garage and house, and call a dealer. Toyota Canada has a matching campaign for about 6,721 trucks, so owners north of the border should check too.
What happens next
Toyota says the vehicle list is current as of the filing date and could change. The open question is whether the company finds a root cause and files an amended count. This is also the second Toyota hybrid recall this month. On Oct. 7, the automaker recalled 30,978 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrids over an unrelated software defect, and that RAV4 plug-in hybrid recall is a software-only fix. Meanwhile, Toyota keeps stacking up wins elsewhere, as our look at the best-selling EVs in the US shows.
For a truck that sells on being unbreakable, a clip is a small thing to get wrong. Check your VIN, book the free fix, and park outside until it is done if anything smells off.
