$79.99 vs. $145: Costco’s Peter Millar Hoodie Is 45% Off, Not New

A viral post says Costco is selling Peter Millar hoodies for $79. 99.

Country club polish, warehouse-club price tag: a Peter Millar performance hoodie is selling at Costco for $79.99, and a viral Instagram post is calling it a rare find. The price checks out. The “rare” part doesn’t, and I’ll say so up front.

The post, from the @instoreclearance account, shows the Men’s Pine Performance Hoodie, Costco item #1886080, on a warehouse shelf. As of this week it had roughly 3,700 likes and more than 6,000 shares. Peter Millar, the golf and country club brand, isn’t known for bargain pricing, so people notice.

The price-tracking site Warehouse Runner lists the hoodie at $79.99 and says it was spotted at 86 Costco locations as of Oct. 20. Sample listings from late September show that price at warehouses in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Arizona. Most were in stock. One in Scottsdale was running low.

Peter Millar’s own site sells the Pine Performance Hoodie for $145. The Instagram caption says $150, so it’s a little off (rounding up is a bold way to make a discount look bigger). Either way, $79.99 works out to about 45% below the brand’s list price.

That gap is the whole reason this post took off. Costco has a habit of turning up in the news for pricing like this, as in its $199.99 Thanksgiving box that feeds eight.

Here’s the thing: this Peter Millar Costco deal isn’t new

If you’re holding out for a once-in-a-blue-moon score, here’s the thing: the post frames the hoodie as something Costco is suddenly selling, and the record says otherwise. Shopper videos on TikTok mentioned this hoodie at $79.99 as far back as early October, and the tracker has followed it for weeks. Several other Peter Millar items have also turned up at Costco, including a mesh polo at $54.99 and a performance trouser at $89.99.

So “rare” is a stretch. “Limited and rotating” is closer to the truth.

Costco is known for short-run brand-name apparel that shows up, sells through and disappears. What’s on the shelf changes from warehouse to warehouse.

Also worth knowing: the Warehouse Runner data is crowd-sourced, and its last hoodie update was Oct. 20. I couldn’t find a statement from Costco or Peter Millar confirming the product or its current stock. Costco lists the item only as a “Men’s Hoodie,” so it’s not confirmed that every warehouse carries the Pine Performance model shown in the viral post.

What to do if you want the Costco Peter Millar hoodie

Don’t drive across town on the strength of an Instagram screenshot. Check costco.com or call your local warehouse and ask about item #1886080. Colors vary by store, and the tracker showed at least one location running low in September. If you want a sense of how Costco’s name moves markets, our Wednesday market watch has the bigger picture.

Here’s one more tip from the pricing pattern. Costco clearance prices often end in .97. A hoodie that starts at $79.99 could get cheaper before it disappears. That’s a general habit, not a confirmed plan, so don’t bet your holiday budget on it.

For a performance hoodie with four-way stretch from a brand that usually costs $145, $79.99 is a decent deal. Just don’t believe everything an algorithm calls rare.
