The Ford Fathom price starts at $28,350 and tops out in the “high $30,000 range.” That makes it one of the cheapest new EVs in America, and Ford plans to keep even the fanciest version under a $40,000 new-truck sticker.
Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, told investors the lineup spans that range. “We’ll have a range that goes to the high $30,000 range,” he said, according to Autoblog’s account of the Q3 earnings call. The cheapest Fathom starts at $28,350, per Electrek. Ford first revealed the name and the $30,000 pitch earlier.
Why you’ll care about Fathom pricing
Here’s the thing: almost no new electric vehicle in America costs this little. Most EV trucks start well above $50,000. If Ford hits its numbers, the Fathom becomes one of the cheapest new EVs you can buy. And it comes with a bed.
That matters if you’re eyeing a first EV. It matters if you’re trading in an aging gas truck, too, or shopping for a family hauler without a luxury price tag. The full range is now roughly $28,000 to $39,000, which is far more predictable than the usual “starting at” game.
Two prices, one truck: the Ford Fathom cost with fees
The $28,350 starting figure comes before the destination fee. InsideEVs reports that with the $1,595 delivery charge, it lands at $29,945.
So the truck is “under $30,000” only if you count the fee. Fine print, meet headline.
Also, “under $40,000” is a headline-friendly paraphrase. Frick’s quoted words were “high $30,000 range.” Vroomhead says he told the Detroit Free Press the priciest trim will be less than $40,000, but we haven’t seen that interview. Treat the exact ceiling as Ford’s target, not a final MSRP.
The dinner-table fact
Ford says the Fathom has more interior space than a Toyota RAV4. That doesn’t even count the front trunk or the bed. For a truck that starts around the price of a nice used SUV, that’s a bold brag.
Ford also claims the Fathom will cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y. The Ford Fathom cost story also plays against a market where used F-150 Lightning demand has surged.
When the Fathom electric truck price becomes real
Ford hasn’t named the trims or said how many there will be. It also hasn’t released range, battery or horsepower figures. An unofficial listing on Wikipedia mentions a 51 kWh LFP battery, but Ford hasn’t confirmed it.
What is official: CEO Jim Farley said on the earnings call that the Fathom is still on track for a fourth-quarter 2027 launch. It is the first Ford built on its new Universal Electric Vehicle platform. Ford is retooling its Louisville, Kentucky plant to make it. NewsBytes says order books should open in early 2027, and a waiting list for the waiting list already exists.
Farley himself has been candid about the challenge. “It’s going to be a heck of an effort to launch at this scale, at cost, on time,” he said at an industry event, per CBT News. He hasn’t signaled a delay.
So the pitch is clear: a cheap, roomy electric truck from America’s most famous truck brand. The real test arrives in late 2027.
That’s when we find out whether the window sticker matches the promise on the earnings call.
