11 Months Old: Viral ‘Hyundai Cyberpunk 2026’ Is the CRATER Concept

The boxy olive-gold SUV going viral as the 'Hyundai Cyberpunk 2026' is a show car from 2025. Here's what it really is.

The olive-gold off-roader going viral as the 'Hyundai Cyberpunk 2026' appears to be Hyundai's CRATER Concept from 2025.

The olive-gold off-roader making the rounds with a “Cyberpunk 2026” caption is the Hyundai Crater Concept, a show car that debuted in November 2025. It is not new, and nobody at Hyundai calls it Cyberpunk.

If you’re saving for a Hyundai adventure SUV, don’t hold your breath. The caption gets nearly every detail wrong, and the real story is more interesting than the fake one.

The Hyundai Crater Concept: What the Clip Actually Shows

Hyundai unveiled the CRATER Concept at AutoMobility LA in November 2025. CarBuzz put the debut date at Nov. 20. So the vehicle is about 11 months old, not a 2026 reveal.

The match comes down to the details. The paint is Dune Gold Matte, a green-gold shade inspired by California’s coastal terrain. The wheels are 18-inch hexagonal units wrapped in 33-inch off-road tires. There is also a wide skid plate and a roof platform for auxiliary gear. The paint, roof rack and chunky wheels show up in the screenshot we reviewed, though we could not confirm a full match.

Where the ‘Cyberpunk’ Name Came From

No Hyundai source uses the name “Cyberpunk.” The likely origin is a media comparison. When the car debuted, the South African tech site Hypertext wrote that the concept looks like it came from Cyberpunk 2077. That is a style joke, and somewhere along the way it got promoted to a model name (the internet’s version of a field promotion).

Is the Hyundai Crater Coming to Showrooms?

Not yet, and possibly never. HiConsumption describes the CRATER as a design exploration with no pricing or availability. Meanwhile, GearJunkie reported that Hyundai gave no production timing. The executives quoted called the Crater concept SUV a possible production car, which is not a commitment.

Still, Hyundai is clearly leaning into the adventure crowd. “Crater began with a question: ‘What does freedom look like?’ This vehicle stands as our answer,” said SangYup Lee, head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design. And Hyundai North America CEO Randy Parker told GearJunkie the company plans to “enhance our off-road capabilities and be more adventurous” over the next couple of years.

For now, that means XRT trims, not a Crater in your driveway.

Hyundai is not the only automaker keeping its cards close right now. Toyota’s mystery racer that looks like an MR2 is another case where an eye-catching machine arrives without an official plan.

The Only Place You Can Drive the Hyundai Off-Road Concept Right Now

If you want to get behind the wheel, there’s one option, and it’s digital. Hyundai says the CRATER Concept became a drivable vehicle in Ubisoft’s The Crew Motorfest in October, as part of the Season 11 off-road update. The company calls it the first Korean automaker vehicle officially added to the game.

So the truck that looks like a video game car really is in a video game now. Just not the one the name suggests.

Check the source before you start saving for a car you saw in a reel. Hype is cheap, and the best-selling EVs in the US are the ones people actually buy. The Crater is a gorgeous concept, and “Cyberpunk 2026” is pure internet.
